Meet mompreneurs Rena Stern and Daphne Kaufer, developers of SuperME. The inspiration for SuperME came from their children who loved playing dress-up and carrying their own bags to school, parks, day trips, or on vacation.
The super moms saw the opportunity to create functional products that were fun to play with, and reflected the uniqueness of each child. After numerous play dates and a lot of hard work, SuperME was born.
The SuperME products include a cape backpack. This idea came about when Daphne’s son asked for a superhero backpack. She didn’t want to give him the standard, commercial product that everyone else had, so Daphne came up with the cape backpack – making her son his own superhero.
I was contacted by Rena and asked to review the SuperMe backpack and to share my findings with my community of mompreneurs. And I happily obliged.
At the time, my preschooler was in “need” of a backpack since his older sister was entering first grade and had one. So I requested the SuperME cape backpack for my budding, little super hero, and this is what arrived a few short days later:
The backpack includes a super-hero-style cape that can be zipped away when not in use. It also includes, much to the delight of my son, a mask to complete the SuperMe outfit.

The SuperMe backpack is a hit with my household. My son has kept it on or close to him since getting it. We even took it on a bike ride and got many compliments from passerbys.
These super moms really capitalized on an idea that is sure to delight kids of all school ages (yes, my first grader now wants the messenger backpack with the super-belt). They have demonstrated that often the best business ideas come from a need or desire of your target, and the income comes by meeting those needs.
Business Tip: Find a need that you hear someone complain about often, or carefully consider the desire that you hear expressed over and over and think of a way to solve it. This is how great businesses are built.
